Running multiXFinder on Mountain Lion

multiXFinder.pngAs you probably already know, Apple is going to release a major new of OS X, the 10.8, codenamed "Mountain Lion", in a few days. As often occurred in the past with major releases of the OS multiXFinder will need to be updated to remain perfectly compatible.

The good news is that the menu included in multiXFinder 0.4.1 seems to work under the new OS without problems, the bad one is that at least three new bugs will occur using the System Preferences pane and that I won't have enough time to fix them before going on leave (I'm leaving in a few hours this very day).

The first couple of problems is trivial: Rules are updated only when the menu is relaunched and in some situations a logout is needed to display the changes done to Spotlight's menu.

The third one, however, needs an immediate workaround: the "Show An Applicazion Swithcer Menu" checkbox isn't working as it should if the Application Menu Switcher is disabled when the System Preferences pane is launched. This even prevents the user to launch the menu after the installation of the software.

When I'll find the time, probably in a month of two, i'll hunt down and fix the new bugs, 'til then I'm releasing this script: if multiXFinder 0.4.1 is installed using it will enable the menu. It will be then possible to move it to its traditional position (or almost: an option to disable Notification Center's icon is still unavailable) dragging it while the Command key is down or using the System Preferences Pane.
